Dem Deer Pizza Casserole

Jump to Recipe

When the husband asks if you can make something called Pizza Casserole . It was really yummy, hearty and family friendly. This is something you can customize with your own pizza toppings. You can make this with ground beef, bear, venison or goose. This is also the perfect “premade” hunt camp or busy weeknight meal.

Here’s what I did:

1 lb ground venison - browned (or beef/goose/turkey/whatever)
400 grams strong pasta (cavatappi/gemelli/rigatoni) - cooked for half of the recommended time
1 small green pepper - diced
1 cup pepperoni slices - small
½ tsp salt
½ tsp pepper
½ tsp parsley
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp basil
1 tsp garlic powder
1000 ml pasta sauce
1 cup mozzarella cheese - shredded - for casserole mix
½ cup parmesan cheese - shredded - for casserole mix
½ cup water or broth

½ cup mozzarella cheese - shredded - topping
20 pepperoni slices - topping

Preheat that oven to 350. Brown your ground venison. This also works with beef, goose, turkey, even sausage. Cook your pasta for half of the amount of time recommended. You want it to be very tender as it will cook further while being baked.

In a large bowl or pot, mix together all of the ingredients - minus the toppings.

Add to a lightly greased 9x13 baking dish. Add shredded cheese on top and neatly line additional pepperoni pieces up on top.

Cover with tin foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove tin foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes. Serve and enjoy! It’s great with caesar salad as a side.
