Don’t worry vegans - no deer were harmed in the ma Don’t worry vegans - no deer were harmed in the making of this hunt. 🌱

I snuck out for another hunt this afternoon - I got out pretty late, but I’m so thankful for my husband chilling with our little one while I get out when I can. Between work, side hustles and a baby - it’s a struggle.

It was a deerless hunt. I saw a ton of turkey tracks, coyote tracks and watched a bunch of geese land in a neighbouring field. But no deer. Again.

It’s that time of year where I start to hear and see other (and many newer) hunters get discouraged. This happens. Most of the time we don’t see deer. Until we do. We sit for hours on end, days, weeks, years - sometimes all without harvesting a deer.

You just see and hear about everyone’s success stories far more than you hear about their days sitting, freezing and seeing nothing. Keep at it - the day you want to give up may be the day you harvest your deer.
What a squirrel harvesting machine 😻 #UmarexKomple What a squirrel harvesting machine 😻 #UmarexKomplete

Highly recommend this super cool little @umarexairguns Komplete NCR. This baby reaches velocities of up to 950 FPS and she’s accurate as heck. What a great squirrel-getter.

Who wants my squirrel curry recipe? I usually just throw the ingredients into a slow cooker but I should write them down so everyone can enjoy these creatures.
Yesterday’s afternoon hunt was good. I didn’t “cat Yesterday’s afternoon hunt was good. I didn’t “catch” anything, (as the kind lady at the grocery store I stopped at on my way home asked) but I saw a couple of does, a coyote, some partridge and about 53 squirrels. There were also a lot of tracks around my mineral spot - exciting and promising.

It doesn’t look like I’ll be getting out again until the weekend. I have a day (and remainder of my week) packed with meetings, calls and trying to keep a tiny human alive and stimulated 🧠 so they don’t go voting like nincompoops when they turn 18.

I am so determined to get a buck in that freezer this year - I’ve been going through a dry spell. 🦌 🥩 Wish me luck, and I hope everyone that’s getting out is having a wonderful season so far.
I do NOT love being cold. I keep my house chilly t I do NOT love being cold. I keep my house chilly to sleep at night, I spend a lot of time outside in the winter, I don’t mind being in the cold as long as I’m dressed very warm. My husband often jokes about just how many layers I wear when I’m hunting and ice fishing. 🥶 ❄️ 🧤

Two socks, leggings, sweat pants, bibs, an undershirt, a brazier, a T-shirt or long sleeved shirt, a fuzzy sweater, a hoodie, a winter jacket, neck warmer, face mask (sometimes) warm hat, gloves - I’m good to go.

Stay comfortable - stay out longer.

First morning hunt of the season:

Well, the first morning hunt of the season is a wrap. I got out later than planned, and left sooner than I’d like - but that’s life when you decide to have an infant so close to hunting season.

I saw some fresh tracks, fresh poop, a lot of squirrels (including an albino one) and heard more coyotes as I was walking into my blind before sunrise.

My husband had to do some repairs on his car this afternoon - so I unfortunately had to skip an afternoon sit. I can’t wait to head back out tomorrow morning. Hopefully I’ll have a bit more deer action.

How’s your season going?
