There are so many ways you can prepare and use these flatbreads and the self sufficiency behind making your own food like this is rewarding.

You can cut these flatbreads into wedges once cooked, brush some oil and salt on them and bake them into pita chips for dipping. My favourite way to use these is flatbread pizzas.

Buffalo chicken, BBQ wild turkey, BBQ pulled goose or venison, ham and mushroom, the options are endless. I'll leave a list of combinations I like to use for my flatbread pizzas.

The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity. You can make this recipe just a handful of common household staples, you can whip up a batch of delightful flatbreads that are not only delicious but also incredibly versatile.

One of the things I love most about this recipe is the self-sufficiency it brings to the table. It's knowing that I can create something so tasty with basic ingredients right from my pantry is empowering.

You can cut them into wedges post-cooking, brush on a bit of oil, sprinkle with salt, and bake them into irresistibly crunchy pita chips – perfect for dipping into your favourite sauces or spreads.

But where these flatbreads truly shine is in their role as the canvas for a multitude of flatbread pizzas.

Homemade Flatbread Recipe

Ingredients:

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon pure honey
3/4 cup cold water

Instructions:

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, basil and salt until well blended.

Make a well in the middle of the flour mixture, and then add olive oil, honey, and most of the cold water (saving a few tablespoons to add later as necessary).

Switch to a rubber spatula or spoon and stir the wet ingredients into the flour mixture. If the dough seems dry, add the remaining water gradually until the dough comes together.

Transfer the dough to a floured work surface and knead 5 to 10 times until smooth. Cover the dough with a clean dish cloth and let it rest for 10 minutes.

Divide the rested dough into six equal pieces. (sometimes I will divide into two pieces to make more of a pizza)

Dust each piece in flour and roll it into a disc between 1/8-inch and 1/4-inch thick.
Adjust thickness according to your preference for softness.

Heat a skillet over medium heat and add one to two tablespoons of oil.

When the oil looks shimmery, add a flatbread (or more if they fit).

Cook until golden brown on one side (approximately 1-2 minutes), then flip and cook until the second side is also golden brown.

Transfer the cooked flatbread to a plate and cover with a clean dish towel to keep them soft.
